What is a Republican Committee Person?

A Republican Committee person (often called a precinct committeeperson, committee member, or committee person) is a local party official within the Republican Party who represents the party in a small geographic area—usually a precinct, ward, or district.

How the position is structured

• Each voting precinct elects two committee members:

  • One man and one woman

• They are elected by Republican voters every 2 years in even numbered years during a primary election.

• In the Warwick School District, there are a total of 16 voting precincts for a total of 32 committee people.

  • 16 men

  • 16 women

• The Warwick School District is comprised of 3 municipalities:

  • Elizabeth Township

  • Lititz Borough

  • Warwick Township

What we do locally

Our job is to organize Republican political activity at the district and precinct level.

Our responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Organizing voters

• Register new Republican voters.

• Encourage people to vote in primaries and general elections.

• Maintain contact with Republican voters in their neighborhood.

2. Campaign activity

• Distribute campaign literature and yard signs.

• Knock on doors or make phone calls for candidates.

• Staff polling place greeting tables on Election Day.

3. Choosing and vetting candidates

• Help recruit candidates for offices like:

  • Township Supervisor

  • School Board

  • Borough Council

  • Mayor

• Participate in the Republican party endorsement process for local candidates.

4. Voting inside the county party
Committee members attend county meetings and can vote on:

• Party leadership

• Republican candidate endorsements

• Filling vacancies if a candidate drops out before an election.

Why the position can be influential

In Lancaster County, committee members can be very influential in local politics because they:

• Help decide which Republicans get party backing.

• Mobilize voters at the precinct level.

• Sometimes vote to fill candidate vacancies before an election.

That means they often shape who actually appears on the ballot for local offices and influence the direction of the Republican Party!
